Wordle hint FAQ

What is a Wordle hint?

A hint is a piece of information that helps you make progress without handing you the answer — for example knowing that a vowel is still missing, or that one position is already settled.

How does GuessNudge generate Wordle hints?

It uses the guesses you have already played. Your Correct, Misplaced and Absent marks become constraints, GuessNudge filters the five-letter word list down to the words that still fit, and the hints describe what those remaining words have in common.

Can I get a Wordle hint without seeing the answer?

Yes. Hints are revealed one step at a time. The first nudge is deliberately light, and you only see stronger hints, a recommended guess or the list of compatible words if you keep asking for more.

Can GuessNudge suggest my next Wordle guess?

Yes. The third nudge shows a Best Next Guess chosen for how much information it is likely to reveal, along with a short explanation of why it is a useful word to play.

What do green, yellow and gray letters mean in Wordle?

Green means the letter is in the word and in the right position. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means the letter is not in the word.

What do Correct, Misplaced and Absent mean?

They are the GuessNudge equivalents of the colours: Correct matches green, Misplaced matches yellow and Absent matches gray.

Can I use GuessNudge while playing Wordle on The New York Times?

Yes. GuessNudge runs in your browser alongside whatever puzzle you are playing, including NYT Wordle. It is an independent helper and is not affiliated with or endorsed by The New York Times.

Does GuessNudge reveal today's Wordle answer?

No. GuessNudge does not know today's puzzle. It only works from the clues you type in, and it never guarantees that any word is the answer.
