How GuessNudge works
GuessNudge turns the feedback from your puzzle into constraints, then filters a five-letter English word list down to the words that still fit. Here is everything in plain English.
How GuessNudge works
- 1Play your first guess in your puzzle game.
- 2Enter the same five-letter word into GuessNudge.
- 3Mark each letter as Correct, Misplaced or Absent to match the feedback you were given.
- 4GuessNudge narrows down the compatible five-letter words instantly.
- 5Want help without seeing everything? Choose “Give Me a Nudge”.
- 6Nudges build up: small hint, stronger hint, Best Next Guess, then Possible Words.
- 7Add each new guess and repeat until the puzzle is solved.
Example: you played CRANE
In this example the answer starts with C, contains R and E somewhere else, and contains neither A nor N.
Repeated letters: if a guess uses the same letter more than once, GuessNudge considers the feedback for every occurrence so it can estimate how many times that letter may appear.
The three feedback states
The letter is in the word and in exactly that position.
The letter is in the word, but not in that position.
The letter is not in the answer, subject to repeated-letter logic.
Every state carries an icon and a written label as well as a colour, so the board is readable without relying on colour alone.
A worked example
In this example the answer starts with C, contains R and E somewhere else, and contains neither A nor N.
Repeated letters
If a guess uses the same letter more than once, GuessNudge considers the feedback for every occurrence so it can estimate how many times that letter may appear. For example, if you play a word with two Es and only one of them comes back positive while the other is marked absent, the engine concludes the answer contains exactly one E — rather than throwing E out completely or allowing any number of them.
The progressive nudge system
Nudge 1 — Small hint
A light directional hint: how many words are left, and a characteristic they share.
Nudge 2 — Stronger hint
A particularly valuable letter to test, and which position is still least settled.
Nudge 3 — Best next guess
One recommended word with a short explanation of why it is informative.
Nudge 4 — Possible words
The full list of compatible words, revealed only when you ask for it.
