Green, yellow and gray β€” and what GuessNudge calls them

The tiles use words instead of colours so the marks stay readable in both light and dark mode. They mean exactly the same thing.

Green β†’ Correct

The letter is in the word and in that exact position.

Yellow β†’ Misplaced

The letter is in the word, but somewhere else.

Gray β†’ Absent

The letter is not in the word.

How a next guess is chosen

1. Your clues become rules

Fixed positions, forbidden positions and how many times a letter can appear β€” repeated letters included.

2. Words are filtered

Only five-letter words that satisfy every clue from every guess stay in the list.

3. A useful word is ranked

Remaining words are scored on the letters and positions they share with the rest of the list, so the suggestion tends to separate the possibilities.
